Rassie van der Dussen was born in Pretoria, South Africa, on 7 February 1989. He is the son of Nico van der Dussen, a former rugby player, and his wife, Annemarie. He has three brothers, Adriaan, Nico, and CE. Rassie van der Dussen attended the Afrikaanse Hoër Meisieskool in Pretoria. He began playing cricket at a young age and quickly rose through the ranks of the South African domestic cricket system. He made his first-class debut for Northerns in 2007 and his List A debut for North West in 2008.
In 2018, Rassie van der Dussen was called up to the South Africa national cricket team. He made his international debut in a T20I match against Zimbabwe on 9 October 2018.
