Nissanka was born in Galle, Sri Lanka, on May 18, 1998. He began playing cricket at a young age and quickly rose through the ranks of the Sri Lankan junior cricket system. He made his first-class debut for Kandy in 2016 and his List A debut for Nondescripts Cricket Club in 2018. In 2021, Nissanka was named in Sri Lanka’s squad for their tour of the West Indies. He made his international debut in the first T20I of the series, scoring 28 runs.
