He made his Twenty20 International (T20I) debut against Trinidad and Tobago in the same year. Naib was named the captain of Afghanistan’s ODI team in April 2019, ahead of the 2019 Cricket World Cup. He led the team to a win against Sri Lanka in their opening match of the tournament, but they ultimately finished bottom of their group. Naib resigned as captain of the ODI team in September 2019, after Afghanistan lost to Bangladesh in the Asia Cup. He remains a member of the team and continues to play T20I cricket.
