England Squad for ICC ODI World Cup 2023:

England Squad for ICC ODI World Cup 2023, and The England Cricket Board has announced the 15-player squad for the 2023 ICC Men’s World Cup. England named batter Harry Brook at the expense of Jason Roy in the squad for its 50-over World Cup title defense. Brook, who was left out of England’s initial World Cup squad, made the cut despite a string of failures in the recent series against New Zealand.

England Squad for ICC ODI World Cup 2023

“We have selected a squad we are confident can go to India and win the World Cup,” England men’s national selector Luke Wright said in a statement.

“We are blessed with an incredibly strong group of white-ball players which was underlined by the performances in the series win against a very good New Zealand team. The strength of the group has meant that we have had to make some tough decisions on world-class players, with Jason Roy missing out and Harry Brook coming into the squad,” Wright added.

The squad was selected after closely monitoring players’ performances during their four-match One Day International (ODI) series which the home side won 3-1. A very balanced squad consisting of some of the best players in the world will be looking forward to defending their title in India this year. England have all-rounders in Moeen Ali and Ben Stokes, who can contribute in all three aspects of the game. Meanwhile, in bowling, they have Chris Woakes, Sam Curran, and Mark Wood, who can consistently bowl at 150 kph.

Ben Stokes: England’s Unsung Hero

The inclusion of Ben Stokes is pivotal for the English side. He guided England to a World Cup triumph in 2019 by playing an unbeaten knock of 84 runs against New Zealand in the final. Not only did he lead England to their maiden 50-over World Cup win but also helped them win their second T20 World Cup in Australia last year by playing yet another unbeaten knock of 52 runs against Pakistan.

Inclusion of Harry Brook:

Harry Brook, his attitude was really good and positive when he wasn’t in the provisional World Cup squad. He scored 100 in The Hundred tournament, and he scored a 50 during the T20 game versus New Zealand, showing the right attitude that they’re looking for. His game is more suited to fast bowling than to spin and, with the slow nature of pitches in India, he can bat anywhere in the top six but an opening spot or in the top three is probably a better position if he does get an opportunity to play in India.

Jason Roy Misses Out:

Jason Roy obviously has a fantastic record and he is one of the greatest ODI openers for England. But the only thing was he wasn’t available to play New Zealand during this ODI series because of a back spasm. He then didn’t have an opportunity to showcase where his form is at the moment. With Roy sidelined due to a back injury, Malan opened the batting against New Zealand and the 36-year-old became the joint-fastest Englishman to get to 1,000 ODI runs, reaching the mark in 21 innings to match Kevin Pietersen and Jonathan Trott.

England 2023 World Cup Squad:

Here is the 15-player squad that will surely be impactful for their team performance in the upcoming ODI World Cup 2023 in India:
Jonny Bairstow(wk), Dawid Malan, Joe Root, Jos Buttler(c)(wk), Harry Brook, Ben Stokes, Liam Livingstone, Moeen Ali, Adil Rashid, Sam Curran, Reece Topley, David Willey, Mark Wood, Chris Woakes, Gus Atkinson.
