Australia Squad for World Cup 2023

The thirteenth edition of the ICC World Cup will take place in India, with the tournament being hosted solely by India for the first time. The ICC has released the complete schedule for the event, which is set to run from October 5 to November 19. Australia, known for its dominance in world cricket, has a rich history of success in the World Cup, making them strong contenders for the title once again. The team boasts a formidable lineup of key players with the skills, experience, and temperament to impact the team’s performance significantly.

Australia has announced some surprise inclusion in their 18-player squad for this year’s 50-over Cricket World Cup in India. Uncapped leg spinner Tanveer Sangha and inexperienced Aaron Hardie are the surprise inclusions. Australia will play its first game of the World Cup 2023 against the hosts India in Chennai on October 8. Cricket Australia has recently announced the preliminary squad for the ICC ODI World Cup 2023, and the Australian team is gearing up for their impressive thirteenth consecutive appearance in the prestigious tournament.

Pat Cummins Injury and His Inclusion:

The squad will be led by regular captain Pat Cummins who, despite suffering a fractured wrist during the Ashes, is expected to be fit and ready before the World Cup begins. Cummins had been advised to rest for six weeks, and the right arm pacer hopes to return before the commencement of the World Cup. Chief Selector George Bailey revealed Cummins has an undisplaced fracture of his left radius, which requires six weeks of rehabilitation, but believes the rest before the start of the tournament will do him good. There are still several games before the World Cup, which is enough for him to have a strong preparation for the marquee event. Australia will prepare for the World Cup with a five-match series against South Africa in South Africa and three against India in India.

Why did Marnus Labuschagne not in the squad?

The Marnus exclusion from the squad surprises everyone. Australia has left out Marnus Labuschagne from their initial squad for the CWC 2023. The reason for that is his bad form in this format. In 28 innings, he averages 31.37 with a strike rate of 83.20. In Asia, his numbers drop further as his average slips to 28.91 and his strike rate to 77.45. With many all-rounder options in the squad, Australia has decided to leave Labuschagne out.

The selection committee of Cricket Australia has carefully crafted the squad for the ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup 2023, aiming to assemble the strongest possible team. The squad includes new and exciting faces while retaining the core group of players who have showcased outstanding performances in recent One Day Internationals. The selectors have strategically decided to exclude a few senior players who have been underperforming in recent matches, ensuring that the squad is a blend of experience and youth.
