Afif was born in Khulna, Bangladesh on September 22, 1999. He made his first-class debut for East Zone in February 2017 and scored a century in his very first innings. He was also the youngest T20 debutant to take a five-for, when he picked up 5 for 21 for Rajshahi Kings against Chittagong Vikings in December 2016. Afif made his ODI debut for Bangladesh against Zimbabwe in March 2020. He has played 28 ODIs so far, scoring 546 runs at an average of 28.74. He has also played 63 T20Is, scoring 1044 runs at an average of 21.31. Afif’s best performance in ODI cricket came against Afghanistan in February 2022.

He scored 93* not out, which is the highest individual score for any Bangladeshi batter in ODI cricket while batting at number 7 and lower.
